Therapy: Alcohol and Drug Addiction
NEW BEGINNINGS
ABOUT THE CENTER
New Beginnings is a dual diagnosis facility offering family-oriented
intermediate care to individuals aged 13 to 20 recovering from addictions
or similar problematic lifestyles. Here at New Beginnings, people are
challenged while being supported in integrating the skills necessary for
recovery. The therapeutic regime has the capability to respond to the needs
of adults, adolescents, men & women, who are in recovery from addiction.
The services are interdisciplinary; designed to meet the
individual needs of the person.
The facility is on a beautiful twenty-one acre site in Opelousas, Louisiana;
composed of a manager's residence, five apartments, & multipurpose meeting
facilities. With semiprivate accommodations, each apartment houses eight
clients. All units overlook the courtyard with a natural amphitheater.
The backbone of the
treatment is the time tested recovery philosophy of the "12 Steps." The spirit,
the principles of this straight forward humanism permeates the lectures,
therapies & community activities at the Center. Growing in self awareness,
amending the past, deepening spiritually, developing creative love
relationships, being of service to others, these along with a number of other
principles are ever present.
Many
adjunctive, supportive therapies are available for the residents. These include
individual,
family therapy, pastoral, educational, vocational counseling, art, cooking,
gardening, & much more.
The New Beginnings
facility is only minutes away from major regional airports, bus depots, rail
terminals; hotels or motels also abound near by. Families of clients will find
numerous reasonably priced accommodations. Often rooms are available at New
Beginnings for family members at a reasonable fee.

NEW BEGINNINGS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
New Beginnings offers a homebound
educational program for junior high – high school students in our program. All
classes are held on the grounds of New Beginnings. In rare cases we will allow
attendance of schools off grounds.
New Beginnings will need all school
transcripts sent to our address or faxed to (337) 948-9101 on
or before the admission date of the client.
Please note that our homebound
program is fully accredited by the Louisiana Department of Education; all
credits are transferable to the client's high school or junior high of origin.
As an alternative to the homebound
program, New Beginnings offers a G.E.D. program. The client must be 17 years of
age to participate in this program. Ninety-five percent of New Beginnings
clients who participate in this G E D program, complete the G E D program with a
high school diploma.
New Beginnings has a Master's level
Certified teacher full time on staff. Please feel free to consult with this
person at your convenience.

THE GOAL AT NEW
BEGINNINGS
The goal of the facility is to support the
recovery of individuals while assisting in their quest for a full, meaningful life. Relying
heavily on the time-tested Twelve Step philosophy, we encourage personal awareness,
healing of the past, spiritual growth, the risk of loving and creative relationships
with others.
THE COMMUNITY
Perhaps most healing for our clients
is the community of the Center itself. Here men, women, adolescents and
adults, share experience, strength & hope with one another. All grow in
awareness, communication and a greater appreciation for
family while developing the skills to cope with their drug; drug addictions.
